FOIB projects

FOIB is the Faroese acronym for Føroya Olju Ídnaðar Bólkur which in English translation is Faroe Oil Industry Group. FOIB is the direct successor of the joint industry project in Faroese waters, GEM which was an acronym for Geology, Environment and Met-Ocean and started as part of the Faroese Oil exploration in 1998.

The vehicle for the first development of the data quality management systems which now are part of Data Quality Systems pf was sp/f Data Quality owned by two of the initiators of Data Quality Systems pf. Sp/f Data Quality has changed it’s name to sp/f Kronos.

Sp/f Kronos (former sp/f Data Quality) has had a number of duties for FOIB (former GEM) in the period 2001 to mid 2009. One project of public interest was to provide GEM with a meteorological climate review (2001) which still is the most comprehensive and recent climatology of the Faroes. Another project of public interest is the operation of a directional waverider south of the Faroes.
